Become a Treatment Foster Parent

Hogares has rewarding job opportunities for married or partnered couples, or single adults with or without children, who have the love and willingness to open their homes and life to a child in need.

To become a Treatment Foster Parent, you must:

  • Be at least 25 years old.
  • Be financially stable.
  • Have a structured home environment.
  • Be organized, flexible, dependable, energetic and have a sense of humor.

As a Treatment Foster Parent, with 24 hour ongoing support from Hogares, you will:

  • Commit to maintain a child in your home until the child's treatment goals are met.
  • Provide full supervision of the child, except for school and other approved activities.
  • Cultivate the child's strengths, reward positive behavior and skills development and support the child in taking responsibility.
  • Be an advocate for the child.

Licensing and Background

  • Treatment Foster Parents must be licensed.
  • You will be required to pass a criminal background check, and obtain a child abuse and neglect clearance from the State's Children Youth and Families Department.
  • There will be a home study by a Hogares employee to help determine if your philosophies about respect for children, discipline practices, supervision, safety and other important issues match those of Hogares.
  • You will also be required to complete 40 hours of pre-service training and provide references from employers, friends and adult children.
